Travel cover essentials
Thailand travel insurance checklist
Know what to check before buying a policy. Match the cover to your trip, your medical history and the activities you plan to do.
Independent planning information
We currently have no affiliate agreements with insurance providers. This page is a practical checklist, not a live quotation service or a provider ranking.
Six checks before you buy
Medical treatment
Check emergency medical expenses, hospital treatment, repatriation and the excess. Read exclusions and keep the assistance number available offline.
Understand medical coverMedical declarations
Answer the provider’s medical questions fully. Check that any accepted conditions are recorded on your policy documents.
Cancellation
Compare your prepaid, non-refundable costs with the policy limit. Check covered reasons, exclusions and when cancellation protection begins.
Dates & destinations
Include Thailand, every other destination and the full trip length. Annual policies can limit the length of each individual trip.
Scooters & activities
Check riding and passenger cover, licences, engine-size limits, helmets and any diving or trekking conditions before you book.
Read the scooter guideBaggage & delays
Read single-item limits, unattended-property exclusions and evidence requirements. Check how transport delays and missed departures are defined.
Compare like for like
- Use the same travellers, dates, destinations and medical information for each quote.
- Compare the policy wording and product information document, not just the headline price.
- Look at excesses per person and per claim, cover limits and exclusions.
- Ask the provider to clarify anything unclear before paying.
- Save the policy, emergency assistance details and any written clarification.
Before departure
Check current UK travel advice for Thailand and read your policy’s rules about travelling against advice. Keep copies of your itinerary and documents.
