Isaan offers regional food, historic Khmer sites and towns along the Mekong. Distances are substantial, so choose one part of the region as your base instead of trying to cover it all in a few days.

Nakhon Ratchasima
Consider a city base for a historic-sites itinerary, with transport arranged for places such as Phimai. Check journey times before grouping sights into one day.
Khon Kaen or Udon Thani
City hotels can make food and onward travel easier. Choose your base around the places you want to visit, rather than trying to cover the entire region.
Nong Khai
